111-113 St Peters Street,
I have visited Derek's Pharmacy for the last 8 years for buying mostly non-prescription medicines, on the basis it's a good idea to support local chemists. Recently, for the first time ever, I needed some very quick advice on whether I could continue to take a few more doses of an over the counter medicine they'd sold me once I'd reached the (usually very conservative) limit on the pack. The pharmacist looked up my details and refused to take my call - before even hearing my question - on the basis I hadn't bought any prescription medicine recently. The shop assistant who took my call suggested that I'd have to talk to my GP. This is at a time when NHS Direct can't take minor calls due to swine flu load, closing that route for advice. Pushing minor pharmaceutical questions onto the local GP is an incredibly irresponsible attitude. Going around in person to discuss this produced not an apology, but a bunch of grumpy and poor excuses from the pharmacist - demonstrating that in addition to having no community responsibility, he also has no retail instinct. Will no longer have my custom - I'll find another local chemist.
