At 16 he trained at a London Technical College, on a clock and watch-making course. He passed his finals with credit and achieved first prize for his practical work. He was awarded a scholarship from the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers, to attend the West Dean College Antique Clock Restoration and Conservation course; this course is run in conjunction with the British Antique Dealers Association. After graduation, Steven worked closely with experts in the trade for seven years.
